Thursday Beavers.

Beaver of the Month for May Freddie Stack.

The annual Disco in the Westgrove Hotel was a huge success. As always Mary Dunne and her committee treated us extermely well.  The Bearver once again won many prizes.

Out March Outing to the Lullymore Heritage Park was a great day out. The full Beaver Colony went on this Outing as it was parly to do with the new Programme. We stayed the full day there and the Beaver of course would have liked to stay longer. We went on the train and were left in the middle of the bog and on the way back we stopped for a picnic an da singing competion.

In May we went to Dublin  by public transport. We visited the Wax Museum, the History Museum, Stephen’s Green where we had our lunch and went to th echildren’s playground and the Disney Store at the top of Grafton Street. On Grafton Street we met a Leprechaun who danced the Beavers up and down the Street. We saw a dog made out of sand on the foorpath, a man blowing huge bubbles, a knife act and a fire act. We stopped at Molly Malone and sang a song. We have some great new Photos ot the day. [ the photos will be added later on] We actually had not enough time to see everthing and when we go again we will on on an earlier bus.

At our Meeting we continued to practice for Perent Night/Awards Night which did take place on the 2nd of June. Most of the awards where awarded to the old Beavers who have been with us for 2 years. Stephen Cash was invested into the Beavers on that Night as he was not very well in Janaury. We had 2 Beavers  of the year and the annual Beaver Scrap Book was Presented to a Beaver. This Book is bigger and better than ever this year.

Places in bith Beaver Colonies are very limited this year, 2 places on the Tuesday Beavers and 3  in Thurdays Beavers. 3 Beavers from the Thursday Colony will move on to Wednesday Cubs next September and they are Niamh Henry, Conor Coughlan and Ellen Fitzgerald.

The Waiting List for places in the Beavers will remain closed for some time.

Our Unit Mass was held on the 12th June on the Parish Church at 11.30 am.

We will close on the 23rd June and will open on the 8th September 2011.

On behalf on the Unit we send our deepest sympathy to the O’Neill Family on the death of David. May he rest in Peace.

We wish you a very safe and happy Summer.

Thursday Beaver Scouts

When we returned on the 9th of September, we welcomed 12 new Beaver Scouts.  Aine Kate Maguire, Rory Kavanangh, Aisling Twohig, Jessie Cody Evens, Andrew Bisland, Jessica Marron, Aran McKenna, David MacPartlin, Michael Behan, Matthew Walsh Hussey, Laoise Gilman and Beibinn Gorman.  They are with us 4 weeks now and seem to be enjoying themselves.

On the 25th September we joined with the Tuesday Bavers and went fora fun day out to LarchHill, Dublin.  As usual we had food first and then off to Ian to sow some daffodil bulbs in old shoes, we made wind chimes out of plastic bottles, learning many new songs from Johnny, Skied doen teh garssy slopes, went on the high jump amany times, staying a long on the bouncy castles and after a very long and enjoyable hike, we joined in the boat race.  This was the highlight of the day as the majority of the children love water and there was 2 very capable men there to make sure everything went smoothy.  the surprise was taht none of our Beavers fell in the water or even got wet feet.  Bernie prepared a lovely BBQ for us, which was very welcome.  we ended the day weit a Disco in the open air and had a lot of sleepy Bearver going home.

Although only 4 weeks in the Cubs Scouts, 3 of our past Beavers went on this weekend. Well done to Sarah Logan, Sean Woods and Noel Austin.

Welll doen to the Cill Dara County Team who put the weekend together. It takes the beat part of a year as there is a separate programme for each section. I have not heard yet how many attended there. Children and Leaders all got a lovely purple t-shirt to wear and take home.

Our meeting are very well attened each week.  We are at the moment preparing for Investiture Night.  There is alot to be done to prepare for this night.  Our Annual Scrap Book had already started and Niamh Henry got to do the first page this year.

We also have got another Beaver Mascot to join George, Sam andPenny. Each new Beaver gave us a name and we decided to put them  all in a hat and pick one out and the name that came out was Chloe, supplied by Laoise Gillman.

At the moment we are planning  our October outing which will be to the wax Museum, History Museum and hopefully we will have a walk throught St, Stepens Green.  We will travel by public bus as thsi keeps cost down.

We will go to Donadea Forest in November for a Pioneering Day out. It should be lots of fun.

Older Beavers will be presented with their Outdoor Award before we close for Halloween, Which they earned over the course of the Scouting Year.

Yours inScouting

Thursday Beaver Scouts.

The Beaver Scouts at Castletown House in June and with the Garda in the Den also in June

Our Outing before we closed for the summer holidays was to Castletown House inCelbridge.  We joined with the Tuesday Beavers and travelled by public bus.  We then walked up to the house and saw lots of squirrels and birds in the trees.  The day was nice and sunny and there were lots of people about.  We had a game of Football and it was decided that teh Teams would be England and France.  Denis was the Referee and he very quickly ran out of yellow and red cards.  It ended in a draw match.  Rowena Breen was teh scorekeeper with help from Conor Coughlin and Mark Mulqueen.  We then went for a quided tour of the house.  All the rooms are beautiful but we all agreed that that the one with all teh transfers on the wall was the best.  Next stop was the Courtyard for lunch and face painting by Mairead.  The day passed very quickly and in the end we haed to run to catch the bus.

Many thanks to the Garda who visited theBeavers on the 17th June and who had so much patience with them.  He spoke to them about many things, in particular how to stay safe for the summer when everyone is out and about and the Beavers asked a lot of questions.  They sang ” Tom the Toad” with actions for him.  This song wxplains what can happen to us if we are not very careful on the road.  Each Beaver was presented with a ” Wanted Poster” withtheir photo on it.  The photo had been taken 9 months previously and it was amazing to see how much each child had changed.  He said hewould be delighted to visit us again so we gave him a box of chocolates for being so nice.

Before we closed we had a party and our Annual Talent Show.  Lots of Irish dancing, singing and jokes.  The Judges agreed and disagreed but eventulaay decided that the winners were Keelan O’ Connell and SeanNewman.

We will miss the Beavers who have left us for the Cub Scouts and in september we will welcome 12 new Beavers Scouts.

Our new Programme will not begin untill 2011.  There is a lot to be done yet and we all to do new training.  At the moment there is a delay on the new Books that we all need.  The age for Beavers Scouts will now be 6 to 9 years.

We will open on the 9th September. The annual Cill Dara County Weekend in Larch Hill, Dublin we be on the 24/25/26 of September.  Tuesday and Thursday Beavers will go on Saturday teh 25th September for the day and we will travel my private bus.  We will join up with the rest of the Clane Unit who will camp for the weekend. This is aday not to be missed and we normally get good weather.
